Arne Gockeln Portrait

Creative Thinker, Software Developer, Futures Trader and Solopreneur. Building TradingOnMac.com. Creator of Kansolo . Previously founder, CEO and freelancer at several Web Agencies and Small Business Firms.

Arne Gockeln is a founder, software developer and futures trader based in Lübeck Germany. He wrote his first line of code in BASIC on a Commodore C64 in 1992 at the age of 10. Fascinated by the possibilities, he started to learn about software development.

Only 8 years later he left school and founded a software company (G&O Productions GbR) in Dortmund. With a team of 6 people he had developed a webshop software product, which was a good success, but due to false confidence and experience the first company failed.

Between the first and second startup, he earned his living as a freelance web developer, developing custom software projects in PHP for individual clients.

In 2006 he founded the mightyrox GmbH to develop greenfield software and web content management systems. As CEO he led the operational business for 4 years until his exit.

Back to more freedom and flexibility he spent 14 years as a freelance software developer working with great teams on great projects ranging from web projects, to WordPress plugins and portals, to high performance API development, native application development in Apple and Linux environments, financial technology and brokerage.

Influenced by his father's idea to trade the options markets in 2014, he decided to investigate further and got sucked into the world of trading, financial markets and trading technology. The complexity and challenge of making a fortune in the market using advanced algorithms and technology fascinated him just as much as the first line of code in 1992.

In 2018 he received venture capital funding from family and friends to start a proprietary algorithmic trading business in the foreign exchange (forex) and futures markets. He developed systematic trading strategies and a proprietary order- and execution management engine to run the strategies at mid- to high frequency in the intraday markets. He learned a lot, especially that the markets are always right.

In January 2022, driven by curiosity, he made the choice to start from scratch as a digital nomad, living a minimalist life. He sold all his stuff down to 73 items, gave up his flat and left Germany to live on sunny islands, travelling with hand luggage and working from his Macbook.

With the experience of travelling and living as a digital nomad, he decided to return to Germany in 2023. He settled in Lübeck and started building Kansolo. A project management app for macOS for solopreneurs and digital nomads in mind.

In April 2024 he launched a new business around trading on the Mac, building software for traders and solopreneurs, and creating content for curious people to learn from his nearly 25 years of experience in building online businesses and digital products.

Work Experience

Trading

These days my trading is simple. I use a strategy which is introduced by Larry Williams , based on weekly Commitment of Traders (COT) data for 42 futures markets (stock indices, financials, currencies, grains, energies, metals, softs, meats and occasionally crypto) and some price action patterns for the entries on the daily price data.

I have written some programs to retrieve data from APIs and automate processes, to help my analysis and to reduce the time spent. That is also algorithmic trading.

This Site

This site is my main home on the web. It has changed over the years from a portfolio site to a single landing page to an algorithmic trading blog.
